Stake History[]

In the past 10 months, Latter-day Saint Missionaries have assisted thousands of California families, volunteering more than 13,000 hours boxing and distributing 3.8 million pounds. “It is an absolutely Herculean task to serve our community with this high need,” said Cat Cvengros, the food bank’s vice president of development and marketing. “There’s no way we could have doubled our business in that short amount of time had we not had everyone pitch in. Our volunteers make up about 40 percent of our workforce. When shelter-in-place went into effect [in March 2020], we lost that. And we had double the folks that needed us. So how [were] we going to navigate that?”

Oakland2019b

The Oakland California Temple is the 13th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is the only LDS temple built with a modern five-spire design and exhibits an Oriental motif. From the temple grounds and terrace are views of the Bay Area, including downtown Oakland, the Bay Bridge, Yerba Buena Island, downtown San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. The grounds are accented by flowers, palm trees, and a formal-style man-made river running from one fountain to the other.
